Detroit is the 23rd largest city in the country. Founded by Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac in 1701, he established a fort in the area during the war of 1812.

The Anishinaabe or “Three Fires” people lived around the area before the Europeans arrived in the region during the 17th century.

The Anishinaabe including the Ojibwe, Odawa and Potawatomi also known as the Chippewa, Ottawa,Wyandot, Iroquois, Fox, Miami, and Sauk used Detroit’s river banks as a place to hunt and gather.

Detroit is home to the automotive development of the auto manufacturing industry.The city thrived as a result of the automobile’s booming success, due to the fact that the largest automakers were established in the Detroit area.

Detroit became famous for producing countless recording Artists, many who became legendary under the direction and great vision of Berry Gordy.

In 1959 Mr. Gordy established the Hitsville, Motown recording studio- recording company, thus Detroit’s nickname became MOTOWN.
