Los Angeles was founded in 1781 by Felipe de Neve. Native Americans native to the area were the Chumash and the Tongva.

The area was claimed for Spain in 1542 by Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo, the original name was Pueblo de Nuestra Senora Reyna de Los Angeles.

Los Angeles and the rest of California were purchased as part of the Guadalupe treaty and thus became part of the United States.

Los Angeles was host to the Olympic Games in 1932 & 1984 and will host the games again in 2028.

Los Angeles is known as the movie Capital of the world. The television and movie industries, along with the music industry, make the City of Angels a mega entertainment hub, much of it located in Hollywood.
